St. James Food Basket was founded under the urging of the St. James Justice Working Group who was concerned about the escalating poverty and hunger within the Central Etobicoke community. With support from Daily Bread Food Bank, and partnership with 13 local churches, 3 Muslim groups, and the Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation, the Food Basket officially opened its doors in February of 2007.
Since its opening, the number of attendees have increased weekly, and for the past several years the Food Basket has provided support to about 200 families per week.
